Our History

As a recent college graduate in the mid-1960s, Colorado native Larry Pisciotta became the owner/operator of his first national chain tire store. It wasn’t long before his hard work and friendly demeanor landed him another location. Then another. And another.


By the mid-1980s, Larry owned and operated 13 different tire store locations, but he wanted more — something less about moving tires and more about serving customers.


“PEOPLE OVER PROFIT."

Larry sold his 13 tire stores and began work on his vision of an auto service center with unmatched customer service. In 1990 he opened the first Brakes Plus in Englewood, CO, and people quickly fell in love with his new brand and philosophy of “people over profit.”

In establishing a culture of unmatched customer service, where employees loved to work and customers loved to shop, Larry’s philosophy and standards set up Brakes Plus for continued success and growth.


“FAST, FRIENDLY, AND FIXED RIGHT…”

Larry knew he didn’t want to simply open any automotive service center. His goal was to create an environment for career-oriented technicians who have a heart to serve customers well.

Brakes Plus became a place where relationships were more important than transactions - where getting things right was more important than simply getting them done. It was a place where “fast, friendly and fixed right” became more than a statement to hang on the wall – it was a promise each and every day.

1966

Eventual founder of Brakes Plus, Larry Pisciotta, begins his career in the automotive industry as the owner of a national chain tire store.

1990

In May 1990, Larry opens the first Brakes Plus location in Englewood, CO.

1995

Larry’s sons, Dean and Mark, join the company and launch an aggressive expansion program throughout Colorado.

1998

Brakes Plus acquires and rebrands 15 Western Auto locations, expanding the company’s footprint to operate 20 stores across two states, now including Wyoming.

2000

The third Pisciotta son, RJ, joins the family business as the company continues its tremendous growth while moving into a third state – Arizona. (Left-Right: Larry, RJ, Dean, Mark)

2007

Brakes Plus expands into Texas with stores in Plano and Carrollton.

2008

The 50th location launches June 28, 2008 in Denver, CO!

2017

In September 2017, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers acquires Brakes Plus, offering the same great service while providing the opportunity for faster growth of the Brakes Plus brand!

2018

Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers and Brakes Plus merge with Mavis Discount Tire to form one of the largest automotive maintenance providers in the United States.
